“I love my children to death”: accused get the last word in the trial of Raul (9), jury will soon deliberate

The trial surrounding the death of 9-year-old Raul is coming to an end in the Ghent assize court. The boy died in 2023 after prolonged torture by his mother Ioana-Maria Micu (33) and stepfather Nicusor Nati Ciurcui (37). They are on trial for torture resulting in death. The Public Prosecution Service and the civil parties are fiercely supportive of the two defendants and speak of “torture of the highest degree”. The defense says it concerns “inhumane treatment”.
