Maik de Boer was firmly canceled by Linda de Mol and her daughter Noa Vahle, but the 64-year-old stylist is still very happy with it. “Then you feel so seen!” he says. “Like I got a ribbon.”
Many people will have no idea what exactly Maik de Boer is known for, but many people certainly know him as a stylist. However, he recently also opened his own photo exhibition somewhere. And he is incredibly proud of that. “When I held my photo exhibition, so many people came!” he says in the Weekend.
Linda cancels
A huge number of people did not come. “I had invited all kinds of big names, such as Eva Jinek, Chantal Janzen, Linda de Mol and her daughter Noa, Jeroen Pauw, you name it. And everyone really made themselves heard and wished me luck if they couldn’t come.”
The cancellation of Linda, Noa and the rest did not hit Maik hard. On the contrary. “Then you feel so seen! I am normally very modest and then think: who is really looking at that invitation? So this felt like a huge gift. Like I got a ribbon or got married, haha!”
Not important
Maik will not become rich from such a photo exhibition. “Money is not important to me. I can live on little, but I hope I can continue to live comfortably. Money only becomes important when you can’t pay your bills. I experienced that too and it was incredibly intense.”
“I had an overpriced house in Amsterdam, with a mortgage of 4,000 euros per month, while I only earned 3,000 euros. That caused panic. I see my house in Barcelona as my retirement. I don’t always have to live there myself, I can also rent it out or sell it if I want something else. And then I can continue to live comfortably on that money.”
