I can paint the house again. ‘But you like that too, don’t you?’, asks my wife | column Herman Sandman

I can paint again. The outside of the house, at least the window frames, needs a paint job after, what will it be, six years. “You like that too, don’t you?” my wife asks.

Admittedly, it is rewarding work. The result is immediately visible, especially since we are switching to a different color.

From a kind of sea blue to warm anthracite, but it is quite a job, painting a house all around. So after the last time I also said: ,,Don’t do it again. Next time we’ll hire someone.”

Well, time isn’t right. All painting and job companies have it through and since corona smothering pressure. The simple replacement of two windows takes about three quarters of a year. They simply don’t get it. I remember asking a hardware store owner last fall if they could do it.

“Try again next spring,” was the reply.

It is now next spring, but everyone is still busy, even though it is dropping to a ‘normal busy’.

In addition: if you already found something or someone, it cost claws with money. So my wife and I came to the conclusion that I was going to do it myself again. I didn’t think it was a good idea to sacrifice the summer holidays, free is free, but just start and take your time.

A window a day or so, especially on weekends or on a dry evening. After all, there is no rush, as long as it happens and I started on the Pentecost weekend.

,,Good,” said my wife, ,,you have already done a lot. It would be nice if it was done on your birthday.”

,,You put pressure on it now,” I thought.

,,How so? That’s in September.”
