“I can do the somersault too”

Karim Adeyemi has arrived at Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund. The international has had BVB in mind for a long time, and he has always followed the careers of captain Marco Reus and ex-Borussian Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in particular. Adeyemi would at least like to orientate himself towards the Gabonese goal celebration.

“I can also do the somersault”, Karim Adeyemi said in an interview with “picture on sundayClearly he would like to show the feat after each of his upcoming goals for Borussia Dortmund – like Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang once did, who scored a total of 141 goals for BVB in four and a half years.

Adeyemi, who switched from RB Salzburg to the black and yellow in the summer for 30 million euros, had already unpacked the somersault during his time with the Austrian Bundesliga club.

But that didn’t go down too well with his ex-coach. “After my first Champions League goal, I’ve already scored one, but my coach Jesse Marsch gave me one on the lid right away. Because I’d rather stay on the ground – and the risk of injury is too great.”

BVB: Reus takes the pressure off Adeyemi

So he would have to “first ask Edin Terzic how he sees it,” Adeyemi joked: “But basically: Why not? It would be boring if everyone cheered at the same time.”

However, Karim Adeyemi does not have the pressure of expectation to score his 19 goals for RB Salzburg right away at BVB. Above all, captain Marco Reus supported the 20-year-old in word and deed in the first few weeks. “Marco, who I know from the national team, took me aside and said not to put any pressure on myself and just show what I can do. The quality in this squad and in the league is very, very high.”

The fact that Adeyemi ultimately chose the Revierklub despite numerous other offers was also a gut decision. “I’ve always followed the club. With players like Marco Reus or Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang before. I think my move to Dortmund is a really important one and the right one.”
