Great choreo, Prince William in the stands: In Villa Park everything was done for a special football evening – but then the wrong music went.
Shortly before the champions of the Champions League kicked off between Aston Villa and Paris Saint-Germain, there was a breakdown. Instead of the well-known Champions League anthem, the melody of the second-class European Cup competition, the Europa League, sounded via the stadium speakers in Villa Park.
While some professionals acknowledged the mistake with a shake of the head, others tried to cover the situation with a crooked smile. But the fans in the sold-out stadium were not irritated: loudly they started their own chants and drowned out the wrong music-right in the middle: Aston-Villa supporter Prince William.
The players had already positioned themselves for the mandatory wave in the direction of the stands when it was finally corrected. At the moment when captains and referees gathered for the side election, the right anthem still sounded and brought the expected sound to a top European game.
