Jennifer: “We live with our children and my parents under the same roof. My father has Parkinson’s and can no longer live independently. He is of Indian descent and always used to having a family around him. So then we decided to take my parents home ten years ago. ”

Hüseyin: “People sometimes say to me: do you want to, your in -laws in the house? Then I say: do you know them? They always helped us when they were younger, also with our children. Jennifer’s father is a father for me. He can no longer talk well, but he was always a man of few words. And he would whine in a home, so this was just the solution. It wasn’t even a choice. ”

Jennifer: “We live in a former warehouse in Westzaan. It overlooks lands. There are two floors of 288 square meters each. My parents live on the top. ”

Hüseyin: “We were both born and raised in the Zaan region. I am from Turkish descent. Our daughter Samina of 19 also lives here and our son Alissio of 24 with his girlfriend, who is also called Jennifer. They have just bought a house. ”

Jennifer: “We have a family business in hair work. I was originally a hairdresser by profession. I started my career at a hair work company in Bussum. After six years I started for myself. I work a lot with women who have hair loss for medical reasons. This varies from alopecia to hormonal problems, certain medication or chemotherapy. And we also have customers who want hairwork for a cosmetic reason, without a medical cause. Our hair work is made in Bali, where I go every year, and the hair comes from India, for example. ”

Traffic accident

Hüseyin: “I had my own company in kitchen installations, until I had a traffic accident. A car rammed me from behind while I stood in front of the traffic light. Since then I can no longer lift refrigerators to the stairs. So now I work at Jennifer in the company. I do everything, from administration to customers. It took some getting used to sitting behind a desk, because I am not a silent person. But there are also advantages. ”

Jennifer: “Our daughter, son and daughter -in -law also work for the family business.”

Hüseyin: “So I see them much more than before. Then I missed a lot of family life. I can catch up now. We are closer than before. ”

Jennifer: “It seemed exciting to work in the same company and then all meet again at home, but it is going fine. It is very nice! ”

Hüseyin: “I now install the kitchen in my son’s new house. So yes, then I put on my old overall. And then everyone can see that I like that again. ”

Wig fit

Jennifer: “Our customers come here to fit their wig at the company. That goes one on one with one of us, in a separate room. Our customers think that privacy is important – especially if it is someone who is sick. We often shave their own hair and then immediately set up the hair work. ”

Hüseyin: “The company is a well -oiled machine. I used to think: female, how busy you are busy, working 80 to 90 hours a week to chase a dream. But it worked. ”

Jennifer: “Our secret? Everyone just has to listen to me. [lacht] But no, it is not complicated to work together as a family. I just have a nice family, so it’s going really well. ”

Hüseyin: “Everyone has their own task.”

Jennifer: “My work is fun, so I don’t have the idea that I am going to work. But it is sometimes heavy. Women who come here usually have been told one or two days before that they have cancer and have to go to the chemo. And the first thing a woman thinks, nine out of ten times, is: then I will lose my hair. Of course we cannot do anything else, but we can ensure that they see themselves again when they look in the mirror. But it can be intense, especially if it concerns young women. Sometimes they are still in the 20. That grabs me. I have also had someone with breast cancer who was given up in the Netherlands. Then she paid her own treatment in Germany and now she is healed. But I do see a difference with 25 years ago. The chances of longer life have become much better. ”

Hüseyin: “Alissio always did karate and is now fanatically boxing. It has become a colossal guy. I am proud. He will soon have his first game. ”

Jennifer: “Samina has been Dutch Karate Champion for years. She mainly fights foreign competitions. We have just been to Poland and Paris. At the end of this month she is fighting in Cyprus and in Dubai. Until recently I brought her to training every day. Recently she has her driver’s license, so that is no longer necessary. “

Hüseyin: “We have no help in the household. I think I’m doing better. ”

Jennifer: “I usually cook.”

Hüseyin: “Jennifer is the manager of the family. I am the assistant manager. ”

Jennifer: “But I am not a bossy boss.”

Hüseyin: “People sometimes ask me how I find that ‘as a man’, or ‘as a Turkish man’. But no, I have no trouble with that. ”

Jennifer: “I think women in most households will make the decisions.”

Hüseyin: “If you let a man decide, not much will happen. I used to struggle against, but then you see that it ultimately goes in her way. ”

Jennifer: “Our dream? A house in Bali, or at least there are longer periods. We want to realize that wish in the near future. ”
