Hungarian airline suspends flights to Moldova due to tensions with Russia | Abroad

“Due to recent developments and the high but not imminent risk in the airspace of the country, Wizz Air has taken the difficult but responsible decision to suspend all its flights to Chisinau from March 14,” the group said in a statement.

Moldova, which lies between Romania and Ukraine, has feared a similar offensive on its own soil since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. In February, Maia Sandu, the president of the former Soviet republic, said she feared a Russian coup attempt in her country.

The Moldovan Ministry of Infrastructure regrets Wizz Air’s decision, saying the “flights following a number of procedures can be safely operated”.
