Hundreds of people met this afternoon at the Grote Markt in Groningen for a protest against femicide. The demonstration is organized by the Dolle Mina’s of Drenthe, Groningen, Friesland and Zwolle, who in this way want to draw attention to women’s murder.
The participants ran a march in the form of an ‘eight’ through the city center of Groningen. According to the organizers, that number symbolizes that every eight days in the Netherlands is killed a woman or girl because she is a woman, usually by an (former) partner. The motto of the promotion: “Enough is enough. Blief mit serves vraauwen!”
“Femicide touches all of us,” emphasize the Dolle Mina’s. “Five women were even killed in the last four weeks,” says Petra Brouwer, of the Dolle Mina’s.
That is why the organization called on not only to take friends, mothers and sisters with you, but also friends, fathers, brothers, uncles and neighborers. Because only together can the circle of violence be broken.
“We want more about this subject to be discussed. Not only by women, but also by the rest of society. Talk about it, because it is a social problem,” Brouwer emphasizes.
