An ex-officer of the American intelligence service CIA has been arrested after the discovery of 303 gold bars in his home. He is said to have taken the gold worth more than 40 million dollars (approximately 34.5 million euros) home from work, American media report.

This David Rush is suspected of stealing government money. The New York Times, among others, reports that he applied for and received “a significant amount of foreign currency and tens of millions of dollars in gold bars for work-related expenses” between November and March. When the CIA investigated where they were stored, they could not be found.

Agents from the FBI searched Rush’s home in Virginia last week, according to American media. In addition to the gold, 35 luxury watches and approximately $2 million in cash were also found. According to the media, Rush had a high position at the CIA. He allegedly lied on his resume during his application.
