It all started with a practical teacher in the United Kingdom who launched a challenge on social media: making a work of art from a block of metal of fifteen centimeters. After the call, he immediately received artworks from arts of art from all over the world, also from West Flanders.
The assignment paints a completely different picture of forging, an image that primarily puts fantasy and creativity. A noble forging art that threatens to be lost with us. “Every blacksmith who is a bit creative can make something he wants. I wanted to show people that a blacksmith can make more than gates and balustrades,” said Luc Vandecasteele, an art smith from Sint-Eloois-Winkel.
The hundreds of artworks can still be admired until 22 February in the Wallemote castle in Izegem, also in the week, so that schools can visit the exhibition.
