Editorial recommendations

On Instagram, Ludi & The Lads describe themselves as a “cover band, but awesome!” with “rock star flavor & a wild mix of indie, alternative, postpunk, rock, pop & punk”. The band has been around for about ten years and played their third sold-out Berlin show on December 19th at the music club of the radio station FluxFM.

So far, so good – until Jackman and Hudson suddenly appeared on stage and loudly sang along to Neil Diamond’s song “Sweet Caroline”.

Jackman shines with previous musical experience

After all, the 57-year-old Jackman already has a lot of singing experience. He celebrated great success as a musical actor in “The Boy from Oz”, “Les Misérables” and “The Greatest Showman”. Jackman also went on a world tour with his show program “The Man. The Music. The Show” in 2019 and 2020 and gave around 100 concerts in six months. In Germany, the actor known from “Deadpool & Wolverine” appeared in Hamburg, Berlin, Cologne and Mannheim in May 2019.

Kate Hudson’s previous musical experience is limited, but her acting experience is not. The 46-year-old American is known from films like “Love in a Detour” and “The Four Feathers”.

Joint film “Song Sung Blue”

But why are the two of them in Berlin at all? The film “Song Sung Blue”, in which the two co-stars, premiered on November 19th at the Berlin Zoo Palast.

And that’s where things come full circle: in the work, Hudson and Jackman embody the married couple Claire and Mike Sardina. The story is based on true events: A couple from Milwaukee reinvent themselves as a Neil Diamond tribute act called “Lightning & Thunder” and fight their way from small gigs to big success. Accordingly, Jackman and Hudson’s joint stage performance in Berlin’s FluxBau after the film premiere must have felt like second nature. By the way, the film will be in cinemas on December 25th.
