Huge fire in Amsterdam apartment complex: residents all evacuated, highway closed

The fire brigade has been turned out en masse tonight for a fire on the seventh floor of an apartment complex in Amsterdam. The fire started on the roof of one of the apartments, but also spread to other homes. Because it is close to the A2, traffic is closed there.

A large fire broke out on a roof in an apartment complex on Joan Muyskenweg, near the A2 in Amsterdam. It spread to surrounding homes.

Photos from a bystander show that the fire is spreading. The first report came in around 8 p.m. Half an hour later it was scaled up considerably.

Completely destroyed

The fire is raging on the seventh floor. Photos show that it was first a single house, but that several houses have since been destroyed by the fire.

Firefighters evacuate residents from homes. The A2 and A10 are also closed at the Amstel junction due to smoke development. The cloud of smoke can be seen from a great distance.
