In the top duel against Magdeburg, the HSV left no doubt right from the start. FC Schalke has to give up very late.
Hamburger SV will remain the leaders of the 2nd Bundesliga after the 26th matchday. Thanks to an outstanding Ransford Königsdörffer, the Hamburgers celebrated a sovereign 3-0 away win in the top duel with the 1st FC Magdeburg. Königsdörffer achieved a double pack (9th and 53rd minute). An own goal of Marcus Mathisen in the 15th minute had placed 2-0.
With 48 points, the HSV continues at the top of the table and has four points ahead of the second -placed 1. FC Köln, who can get back to one point with a win on Saturday. Magdeburg took fourth place with 42 points, but can still lose a few places during the weekend.
In the parallel game, Hannover 96 defeated FC Schalke 2-1 with two very late goals. Up to the 87th minute, the Schalke had run by a goal by Christopher Antwi-Adjei (27th minute), but Jannik Rochelt (87th) and Havard Nielsen (88th) turned the game through a late double strike.
After the 4-1 win against Fortuna Düsseldorf, HSV also started dominant in Magdeburg, but Königsdörffer initially failed with his header on the latte (5th). Just four minutes later, he made it better with his shot from an acute angle – and cheered his already tenth goal of the season. The 23-year-old also played a crucial role in the 2-0, Magdeburg’s Mathisen faulted his cross in his own goal.
The HSV stayed on the trigger, and again and again the guests stormed towards the opposing gate after winning balls. SCM goalkeeper Dominik Reimann parried a try by William Mikelbrencis (29th).
A similar picture was shown in round two. While Magdeburg did not find the encounter at all, it was Königsdörffer again who increased for the guests. As a result, the man of the game even had his third goal on his foot, but his end only thundered to the post (68th).
The HSV continued to take control of the game – and in the final phase again reason to be happy: after over five months of injury break, substitute Robert Glatzel celebrated his return to the square (88th).
In turbulent days, Hannover 96 keeps his chance of returning to the Bundesliga. At Schalke 04, the 96s achieved a late turn on Friday evening within 93 seconds and won 2: 1 (0: 1), the ascent places are moving closer. What is more important, however, is how the coming days develop off the square.
The Lower Saxony have huge problems. The internal power struggle is heading, and a managing director urgently needs to be appointed, who can sign the license application from the German Football League (DFL) until March 17. Sports director Marcus Mann has no authority for this. “I still believe in a solution,” said Mann at Sky. Most recently, however, the mother club and the investors around Martin Kind were irreconcilable.
Christopher Antwi-Adjei (27th) gave Schalke hope for the third victory in series. Coach Kees van Wonderen and his team shouldn’t have to look down anymore – but it turned out differently. Jannik Rochelt (87.) With a dusting gate and Havard Nielsen (88th) after a mistake by Schalke goalkeeper Loris Karius turned the game.
Schalke had earned the lead with higher parties, Antwi-Adjei sank a deflected cross Volley with the knee. 96 then tried in vain to compensate for the balance, the best chance previously thwarted Karius with an air parade against Jessic Ngankam (67.). Then surprisingly tipped over the game.
