Bitter news for Hamburger SV: Striker Davie Selke suffered a fractured cheekbone in the top second division game at Hertha BSC on Saturday evening. The 30-year-old collided with former HS player Toni Leistner in an aerial duel at the start of the second half and had to leave the pitch in the 55th minute. He was then immediately taken to the hospital. The further medical steps will be evaluated in the coming days.

According to the “Kicker”, a specialist will look at the injury on Monday and determine how to proceed. According to the magazine, the attacker will “pretty definitely” need surgery. It is unclear whether he will have to take a break afterwards or whether he can play with a mask. Selke has scored eleven goals in the 2nd league so far, he was also successful in Berlin and is third in the top scorers list.

In addition to Selke, HSV currently has Robert Glatzel, Bakery Jatta and Fabio Baldé unavailable on offense due to injuries. The “Picture“ therefore predicts that the Rothosen will have to step up their attack again by deadline day on February 3rd. We are looking for a striker who can attack from the right as well as has the necessary presence in the center.
