Hamburger SV mourns Horst Schnoor. The keeper of the 1960 championship team still holds a club record to this day.
Hamburger SV has announced the death of Horst Schnoor. The goalkeeper of the 1960 championship team has died at the age of 91. He still holds the club record with 139 clean sheets – no other HSV keeper has gone without conceding a goal more often.
The Bundesliga club honored Schnoor in an obituary on its homepage as “one of the most important goalkeepers” in the club’s history. The Hamburg native was in goal for HSV from 1952 to 1967 and played 507 competitive games.
In addition to the German championship, he won the Oberliga title ten times and won the DFB Cup in 1963. In the same year he took part in HSV’s first Bundesliga game. HSV legend Uwe Seeler, who died in 2022, once described his teammate as a “man of a thousand hands”.
Schnoor remained closely connected to the club even after his playing career. He regularly attended home games at the Volksparkstadion well into his old age.
