HSV: Königsdörffer is thinking about saying goodbye if he continues to have joker status – a new start under Baumgart

With his winning goal to make it 1-0 against SV Elversberg, Ransford Königsdörffer became the match winner in Steffen Baumgart’s debut at Hamburger SV. It was only the seventh time in 19 appearances this second division season that the 22-year-old winger was in the starting line-up. If his mostly joker status does not change under the new coach, the right winger will aim to say goodbye in the summer, as “Hamburger Abendblatt“ reported.

Accordingly, his relationship with ex-coach Tim Walter had been disturbed for a long time, but HSV did not let him go before the season or last winter, even though there were offers. In the summer, these included Sturm Graz, which is said to have offered 3 million euros, or Red Bull Salzburg, with more loose interest, and a loan agreement ready to be signed had already been prepared in January. After the change to the coaching bench, Königsdörffer hopes that he will develop into a regular player and be shown a credible prospect of more playing time. Otherwise he will push for a transfer again despite the contract until 2026, it is said. He should not have an exit clause.

Königsdörffer came to the Rothosen from Dynamo Dresden in 2022 for a fee of 1.2 million euros. Since then he has played 57 games (twelve goals, three assists), 25 of which were from the start. On Sunday he slipped into the first eleven to replace Jean-Luc Dompé, who was missing due to injury, and was criticized by the new head coach despite his winning goal. “He had a good move and that was when he went deep and hit the ball optimally,” said Baumgart about his protégé, who missed several good chances and followed up. “First of all, he has to get back to where his strengths lie. And that’s not putting the ball back and hesitating, but running straight ahead.”

Nevertheless, the Berlin native was happy about his first goal in the 2nd Bundesliga this season. “I was happy to be able to help the team. That hasn’t been the case recently,” says Königsdörffer meaningfully.
