Just want to change firmly

In order to cover the gap that has arisen on the right defensive side, Hamburger SV is apparently stepping up its recruitment of U21 national player Elias Baum from Eintracht Frankfurt. After the “Hamburger Abendblatt” recently reported that the 20-year-old was being watched by the Rothosen, “Bild” went one step further and wrote about conversations that had started. However, not yet with the Hessians themselves.

The departures of William Mikelbrencis (22, contract expires) and Giorgi Gocholeishvili (25, loan from Shakhtar Donetsk ends) have left HSV with a shortage in the right-back position. For the rail position of coach Merlin Polzin’s 3-4-2-1, 3-5-2 or 3-4-3 basic order, Bakery Jatta (28) is currently the only proven alternative in the squad.
Baum showed his talent during his loan to SV Elversberg in 2024/25 with three goals and seven assists in 33 second division games. At that time, he increased his market value to up to 8 million euros. Since then, this has fallen in two steps to 4 million euros. Baum was unable to assert himself at Eintracht last season and was only on the field for 71 Bundesliga minutes. At the start he was still lacking in training due to injury, was out again in October with a thigh injury and, after fighting his way back, suffered an inner ligament injury at the beginning of January. Under coach Albert Riera he was used sporadically, but he was no longer called up for the last four games of the season.
According to “Bild”, both Frankfurt and Baum themselves are only aiming for a permanent exit, not another loan. It is to be expected that the SGE will ask for a transfer fee of around 5 million euros for its own team: the Adler have to generate transfer income. At HSV, on the other hand, the money is not particularly loose: 6.5 million euros have already flowed into the permanent signing of Albert Grønbæk (25) and new signing Kofi Amoako (21). Only Lukasz Poreba (26, Elversberg) brought in income: 1.6 million euros.
