Luka Vušković became a fan favorite at Hamburger SV in just one season. Now the Croatian says goodbye to Hamburg – and finds emotional words.
Luka Vušković played his way through with spectacular goals, strong performances and a lot of passion Hamburger SV quickly into the hearts of the fans. But now it’s over: the 19-year-old is saying goodbye to Hamburg.
“From the first day I came to Hamburg, I felt that there was something special here. The love, the passion, the support,” Vušković wrote on his Instagram profile on Sunday, adding that he immediately had the feeling of being at home. It was an honor for him to be able to wear the number 44 jersey, which his brother Mario had previously worn, in the Volksparkstadion.

“We experienced unforgettable moments together and I gave my all every time I stepped onto the pitch,” the Croatian central defender continued and then thanked his colleagues, crew and fans. Vušković emphasized: “Even though my time here only lasted one season, it will HSV will always have a special place in my heart.”
“Once HSV – always HSV!”
Fans reacted with a lot of support in the comments section. “Legend, forever one of us,” one person wrote. “Once HSV – always HSV!” can also be read under the post. “It was an honor for me to see a future legend play with us. You always see each other twice in your life,” said one fan. The club itself also commented and left heart emojis in the club colors under the post.
Vušković was loaned to Hamburger SV from English first division club Tottenham Hotspur last season. After the Londoners were relegated, the defender is now returning to England.
Even though he wasn’t at Hamburger SV for long, Vušković left a lasting impression. With six goals as a central defender, the Croatian played a large part in Hamburg’s successful Bundesliga year and in their early relegation.
