Hamburger SV has bound defense talent Joel Agyekum with a professional contract. At runtime, the Hanseatic lines did not provide any information, only vaguely spoke of the coming years. The 20-year-old central defender has been playing in the HSV youngsters since 2017 and completed 26 games (one goal) for the regional league reserve in the current season. On the 21st matchday, Agyekum also celebrated its second division debut near Prussia Münster (1: 2).

“Joel is another example for our path and for our ever closer interlinking of professionals and young people,” said sports director Stefan Kuntz, who also emphasized that “Joel did not get this next step from us, but has worked out and deserves it himself through ambition, diligence and talent”. Director Professional football Claus Costa added: “Joel is a modern central defender with an exciting development potential. With his physical dispositions, his pace and his attitude, he brings the best prerequisites to take the next step in his development.”

Aggyekum himself said: “As a native of my club, having signed my first professional contract with my club fulfills me with pride and makes me very happy. I feel very comfortable at the HSV and feel the appreciation of the club. In the conversations with the responsible persons, I was shown a common path here, on which I just get started. This is encouraging me to continue to train intensively in order to provide the greatest impact on the pitch.”
