When threats became commonplace in Colombiathe State created a new system to judge drug traffickers: “Faceless Prosecutors”they named it. That way, criminal gangs couldn’t know who they were up against. It was the way to reduce the risk of life of those who had the duty to put them in jail.
The problem of drug trafficking and violence took place in different parts of Latin America. With different solutions, Colombia, Mexico and El Salvador They fight to return to peace, something similar to what is currently happening in Rosario. “The narco first enters asking for permission. He approaches politics, the police and the Justice and he finds corrupt ”, says the specialist in the fight against drug trafficking Jorge Luis Vidal. And he adds: “Once they become strong, they no longer ask for permission: they give orders.”
In Colombia, politics gave free rein to Pablo Escobar. Once the criminal got into the Senate, they knew they had a bigger problem. “At times it was thought that the Republic was lost,” says Vidal. Violence escalated with Escobar’s death: crime in Medellin 400 deaths were shot for every 100,000 inhabitants. A war. “They should have refounded the National Police and regained ground with the Armed Forces. There were many deaths on both sides”, adds the specialist.
In Mexico they paid no attention to the Colombian experience. “The drug traffickers began bribing the local police. The Government created a special group to confront them and they ended up turning to crime. Last year they formed the National Guardbut Mexico is burning today,” says Vidal.
