A dwarf zebu was born in the Wildlands animal park in Emmen on Wednesday morning.

The new addition is not much bigger than a sheep and, according to spokesperson Hanneke Wijshake, could soon stand on its own two feet. “The bull is very healthy.”

The dwarf zebu has a gestation period of about 9 months. “The animals live with us in the Zeboekraal, which is next to the pick-up point for the Safari trucks in Serenga. In the midst of the hot drought.”

special color

The herd now consists of 4 adult females, 1 bull, 2 older calves and 3 young calves. ,,Normally bulls are often even brown, but this newborn young is more white with some brown spots, so quite special in terms of color. His mother is the oldest cow in the herd.”

The newborn calf is the third born in Wildlands this year. Last Monday a little cow was born. Dwarf zebo live about 25 years old, live in Africa and weigh 100 to 200 kilos.
