Plaster solution or not?
Councilor Inge Rood, who has bitten himself in the file, is clear: “Health is at the top, you cannot hang on it. You hope it can be solved cheaply, but it must be solved.”
For the time being she has her doubts whether that is possible with a ‘million’, the amount mentioned for the remediation of the benzene bell at the Broekpolder. “I think we first have to wait for the research. In my opinion, that is a plaster solution and we will probably be with the same problem again in ten years.”
Previously, councilors heard other amounts. She has been reported orally that the remediation of the total benzene pollution would cost around 50 million euros. “We don’t have that money now, but I think it’s too premature to say that it can be done with a million. Let’s wait for the full investigation first.” The research results are expected at the end of August.
