In fact, Zoetermeerders always give names to the neighborhoods where they live. Think of the Appelbuurt, Waterbuurt, Rodebuurt and the Stromenbuurt. Clear names so that we know what place we are talking about in the city. Apparently the municipality also thinks this is a good idea, so Zoetermeer has officially counted 146 neighborhoods since this spring, spread over twelve residential areas.

What turned out? The Zoetermeer neighborhood layout was already 25 years old and no longer gave a good view of the population figures and the socio -economic situation of a neighborhood. Time for innovation!

And think about

The street names committee of the municipality bowed over the map of Zoetermeer and devised a name for a residential area 146 times in which between 250 and 2500 people live. Names that we as residents had already come up with, but also a few surprisingly new ones.

Examples of new neighborhood names are:

  • Delftsewallen, Poeters and Schildersbuurt in the village
  • Palenstein Center, Noord, East, South and West
  • Zuid-Holland neighborhood, Merenbuurt and Islandsbuurt in Oosterheem
  • Garden, Field and Akkersbuurt in Seghwaert
  • Quay, yard and reason in the Leyens
  • Space, Schansen- and Lommerbuurt in Noordhove
  • Brown, Green and Blauwenbuurt in Rokkeveen

Changes in the neighborhoods

In addition to the new neighborhood names, the municipality has also examined our neighborhood names again. Residents from Buytenwegh / De Leyens now go through life separately. The Buytenwegh district is now an independent neighborhood, just like the Leyens. The former Center district consisted of the city center, Dorp, Driemanspolder and Palenstein. Now they are all alone neighborhoods.

Still secret

In addition, there will be a new neighborhood at the entrance of the city that now has the project name Entree. The municipality will announce the new name later this year. Finally, some parts of the city that already existed are housed at another neighborhood. For example, the new village is housed from the industrial estate district at the Dorp district.
