The idea of participating in the first carnival parade was settled in the pub. Kees and his friends decided to participate as the soldiers of the English TV series ‘Dad’s Army’. Where other participants used a tractor or horse for their floats, Kees and his friends decided to use a real car. “It was soon decided that my beetle would be used for that. After the carnival it was a total loss. You don’t do that a second time.”
His car was sprayed green, the roof was cut off and with scaffolding a plateau was made on which a man or ten were dancing and hurrying. “The fire brigade decided to keep driving behind us to be sure, because it smelled a lot. That we have reached the finish is a miracle.”
Shocked mayor woman
No matter how beautiful the car was, the first prize passed by Kees and his friends. A cannon was also built on the car that could really shoot with Carbid. “The mayor of the mayor was a jury member and just when she came to our car, we let that thing pop,” says Kees laughing. “That person almost flew against the ceiling. That took us some dots.”
