However, the global race for top talent has now intensified. It is important to be even earlier than the competition. One factor why BVB brought in Book as Sebastian Kehl’s successor. “We will try to find pearls that will make Borussia Dortmund better,” the new sports director announced when he was introduced at the end of March. Book earned exactly this reputation as a pearl diver at SV Elversberg, which is now knocking on the door of the Bundesliga.

With Kauã Prates (17, Cruzeiro) and Justin Lerma (18, Independiente del Valle), the first two BVB newcomers are still teenagers. Another construction site for Book is to improve the way he deals with loan players. Such a step is often considered, especially for young players, in order to gain match practice. In order to give more support to talent, BVB wants to hire a new manager, former Dortmund reserve player Sebastian Hille, according to “Sport Bild”, who will accompany the loan players. Especially if, like Kjell Wätjen (20, Bochum) or Cole Campbell (20, Hoffenheim), things aren’t going well for them, their support could be worth its weight in gold.
