More than a month after his departure as an alderman in Hoogeveen, Roelof Bisschop (VVD) has a new job. The local party Burgerbelangen has nominated him as a new alderman in the municipality of Raalte.

A ‘rollercoaster’ name Bisschop Friday 7 February, the day he announced to stop as an alderman in Hoogeveen. “An hour after I sent my letter of resignation, I already received a phone call,” he says. “This was followed by several conversations, resulting in civil interests.”

Bisschop stopped in Hoogeveen because he was no longer in line with the local department of the VVD. A day before, alderman Ben Nijboer van Burgerbelangen stepped up in Raalte. “They were looking for someone with experience,” says Bisschop about Raalte’s largest party. He has since become a member of Burgerbelangen and remains VVD member for the time being. “Burger interests thought that was no problem.”

If the city council agrees, Bisschop may call himself an alderman again from next Thursday. He is looking forward to it. “It is a beautiful, ambitious municipality.”

In the first instance, the Hoogevener is intended to leave the lecture period. Next March the following municipal elections will be, after which a new college must be formed. It is not entirely excluding that he will start working in Salland for more than a year, Bisschop does not. “But that is really too early now to say. We’re around the table in the summer for an evaluation.”
