The host presents his squad: Former Bundesliga professionals are also in the USA’s 26-man squad, which will host the DFB team in the last World Cup test on June 6th.
The USA national soccer team has presented its squad for the World Cup on social media. Among those chosen by coach Mauricio Pochettino are also players who are known from the Bundesliga. Giovanni Reyna from Borussia Mönchengladbach was named in the 26-man squad for the home World Cup.
The United States, along with Canada and Mexico, are hosting the World Cup this summer.
Four years after the turmoil surrounding the offensive player at the finals in Qatar, the 23-year-old is back in the squad, as the co-host announced on Tuesday. There are also two other Bundesliga professionals there, his club colleague Joe Scally and Malik Tillman (Bayer Leverkusen).

In midfield, hopes rest on ex-Schalke player Weston McKennie, while former Dortmund player Christian Pulisic is expected to spin up front. There are other former Bundesliga professionals in the squad with Haji Wright, Ricardo Pepi, Chris Richards, Brenden Aaronson and Tyler Adams.
USA starts the tournament against Paraguay
The USA starts the tournament in Group D on June 12th in Los Angeles against Paraguay, followed by duels with Australia (June 15th) and Turkey (June 25th/local time). Before that, the US boys will test against Senegal on May 31st and against Germany in Chicago on June 6th.
“We are convinced that with this 26-man team we have the best selection to be successful at the World Cup,” said Pochettino: “They were very difficult decisions. The team is highly focused and ready to give everything to represent the United States and show performances that will make the fans and the whole country proud.”
“Reyna has the talent to be a superstar”
Reyna’s World Cup debut in 2022 was overshadowed by an internal conflict. After the tournament it was revealed that then-coach Gregg Berhalter had almost expelled the player from the team because of his behavior in training. Reyna’s mother subsequently reported to the association an incident from 1991 in which Berhalter was said to have been involved in a physical altercation with his girlfriend at the time. US Soccer then launched an investigation. Berhalter’s son Sebastian, Thomas Müller’s teammate at the Vancouver Whitecaps, is also in the World Cup squad.
Reyna was most recently used as a substitute in the March friendly matches against Belgium and Portugal. Even at club level he was recently only a supplementary player; since the beginning of the year he has only played 137 minutes in eight substitute appearances for Gladbach. “Reyna has the talent to be a superstar, but his performance at the club over the last five years has been that of a bench warmer,” USA Today wrote in its squad analysis.
