Horst Hrubesch is a legend at the HSV and was also active in the club after his professional career. Now he puts his office down.
Horst Hrubesch stops young people at Hamburger SV as director. This was announced by the Bundesliga promoter on Wednesday. The 74-year-old would not extend his expiring contract, the statement said.
“It is time for new people to be responsible. I will always be connected to the HSV and now like to hand over the fortunes to the next generation,” Hrubesch is quoted in the message. His successors are “strong in terms of content and have fully committed themselves to the HSV”.
As a player, Hrubesch scored more than 200 games for the HSV and scored over 130 goals. After his professional career, the European champion of 1980 became a trainer, supervised various under-national teams in Germany for many years. In the summer of 2020 he joined the HSV again in the youth work. In between, he jumped into the professionals as an interim coach and also took over the women’s national team after the end of national coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg.
Now HRUBST is withdrawn for the time being, the time at HSV has ended. Sports board member Stefan Kuntz enthused from the 74-year-old in the highest tones: “Anyone who knows Horst and knows him in his ranks will never voluntarily do without him. But if Horst has made a final decision, it is hardly possible to change him. In the end, we are obliged to thank him and his family that he was available to the HSV for so long.”
Kuntz hopes that Hrubesch will not completely disappear. “All doors are always open to us for Horst, hopefully Horst will continue to stop by our men and women,” said the sports director.
