And then Erik is bad luck again. In the hospital in a small town they cannot and do not want to help him. But then help comes from unexpected corner. “I was very lucky that an acquaintance that the whole world flies over, coincidentally there was there that evening. I applied her for advice. And then she arranged everything for me, so I made sure that I could go on a flight to the capital and helped with things like the travel insurance.”

And there a photo in the hospital makes it clear that Erik has broken nothing. “They explained to me that it was the ankle tires.” And so it is really clear that Erik cannot finish his adventure at the nomads. He flies back to Amsterdam.

Don’t want to go home

“If you have been in the wilderness for a month and you have set yourself to be there for a while then it will be disappointing. In the coming period I will probably only be sitting with my leg up on the couch. That is a world that I don’t feel like,” laughs Erik.

Yet Erik is going to do everything to be able to finish his journey before he travels to America for the Continental Divide Trail early next year. So through America, a total of 5000 kilometers and more than 6 months on horseback on the road.

“I hope I can go back three weeks. I would really like to cover a longer distance on my own for a while. I would actually do that until I tore my ankle tires.”
