It seems that ‘horror breeder’ Jan Paridaans from Eersel wants to drag out all the lawsuits against him as long as possible. This Thursday, a lawsuit over the poor care of his dogs was canceled again. According to animal welfare organization House of Animals, Paridaans tries to prolong lawsuits as long as possible in this way. He has often failed to show up, has appealed in various cases and has also gone to the Council of State and, for example, refused to pay penalty payments from the municipality of Eersel.
The court in Den Bosch wanted to put Paridaans and his ex-partner, Stephanie Dul, to the test on Thursday about the poor care of the dogs in their breeding farm on the Grote Aardweg in Eersel. In December 2022 and January 2023, inspectors from the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) found that the dogs were poorly cared for. So bad that first 29 and later 435 dogs were seized.
The trial started on Thursday afternoon, but the only one who showed up was Stephanie Dul (50). Her ex, Jan Paridaans (68) was not there and there were no lawyers either. And there was the problem this time: because both suspects will point fingers at each other, the two lawyers cannot be from the same firm due to a conflict of interest. And that is indeed the case.
Not amused
The public prosecutor, who was ready to handle the case against the dog breeders, was not amused. “I’m terribly disappointed about it. The NVWA, the Public Prosecution Service and the police have invested a lot of time in this case. And then it only becomes clear shortly before the hearing that this cannot go ahead.”
“You see this coming. With two lawyers from the same firm you get a conflict of interest, because suspects start pointing fingers at each other. I think the legal profession should think about this.”
The good news was that two new lawyers have been found who can assist Paridaans and Dul. If there is no new hitch, both will appear in court on March 18. After that announcement, employees of the police, NVWA and House of Animals, who had attended to the handling of the case, left the court.

Jan Paridaans had to deal with the courts and government agencies more often. The municipality of Eersel and later the Council of State ruled that no dog breeding is allowed at the Paridaans address on the Grote Aarweg in Eersel. The NVWA has inspected dog breeding numerous times. The last 160 dogs were seized in May 2023. Paridaans himself was arrested for obstructing the inspection.
But Paridaans didn’t stop. In September, eight more dogs were seized from him. From March this year, Paridaans is no longer allowed to keep animals by the NVWA. All animals still there are removed. This concerns pigs, ponies, donkeys, rabbits, guinea pigs and poultry. According to the NVWA, their living conditions are not good.
Penalty payments
In July, Paridaans was rejected by the Trade and Industry Appeals Board (CBb). That council agreed with the NVWA and therefore Paridaans still had to pay the penalty payments totaling 86,200 euros. Meanwhile, there is also a lawsuit going on about how the money earned through complicated constructions was siphoned off.
Despite Paridaans’ promise not to keep animals anymore, animal welfare organization House of Animals discovered last summer that he is still trading in dogs on Marktplaats. He does this under the pseudonym ‘JP’ from Belgium. The telephone number of the account on Marktplaats belongs to Stephanie Dul, his ex.
The dogs had to be picked up in Belgium. The address that JP provided corresponds to the address of Jan Paridaans’ villa in Retie, province of Antwerp.
House of Animals, which started the case of the ‘horror breeder from Eersel’ in 2022 with a secretly recorded video, is therefore afraid that Paridaans will continue breeding dogs in Belgium.
