‘Horn youth international Sontje Hansen leaves Ajax for NEC transfer-free’

The Hoorn football player Sontje Hansen will make a free transfer to NEC this summer. That reports the weekly magazine Voetbal International this morning. The contract of the 20-year-old attacker of Ajax expires this summer, so that the current number ten of the Eredivisie can take him over on a free transfer.

The switch to football club NEC in Nijmegen can be called surprising, since Ajax wanted to extend Hansen’s contract. He was also in the interest of some foreign clubs. For years, the attacker, born in Hoorn, was considered a great talent within Ajax’s youth academy. However, there was no breakthrough.

It was not possible to reach a new agreement with the club management, so that the talent of Jong Ajax will be walking out the door for free this summer. The choice for Hansen, who celebrates his 21st birthday on May 18, has fallen on the Nijmegen club. Here, according to the weekly, he signs a contract until the summer of 2027.

European champion

With the youth internationals of the Netherlands under 17, Hansen reached the final of the European Youth Championship in 2019. In this match he scored the first goal. The Netherlands eventually won 3-1 against the youth team from Italy.

Because of his performance, the attacker received a special sports award from the municipality of Hoorn. “That’s nice,” Hansen said of the award. “It’s nice that the mayor knows me.”

Mees Hoedemakers

In addition to Hansen, NEC also strengthens the selection with Mees Hoedemakers, NOS reports. The midfielder, born in Zaandam, comes over from SC Cambuur, which was relegated from the Eredivisie, where he played for four seasons.

Hoedemakers previously went through the youth academy of AZ, but only played one game in the first team of the Alkmaarders. Hoedemakers is also transfer-free.
