Restaurant De Bakker and De Schenker in Roden was emptied by the tax authorities yesterday. He has seized all goods in the catering company, in connection with a tax debt.
Assenaar Berthold Ziengs, who started the location in Roden with his partner Renate Vos in 2022, confirms the seizure by the tax authorities. He is now considering requesting bankruptcy.
“We wanted to have the case taken over, there was already a candidate in the picture, but there is nothing left to take over. The tax authorities have thrown a spanner in the works.”
According to Ziengs, there is a tax liability of more than 10,000 euros. “That is about 10,800 euros to be precise.” There is also four months of rent in Roden, but about that “consultation with the landlord,” says Ziengs.
The Roden location was the only thing that was left of the three branches that Vos and Zieng’s started years ago under the name of the baker and the donor. The restaurant in Assen was recently declared bankrupt, at the request of Catering wholesaler Actifood because of outstanding accounts from 2023. There is also a substantial rent and a debt at the Tax Authorities. The location in Meppel has already been divested.
In 2016, Ziengs took the initiative for De Bakker and the Schenker on the Brink in Assen. Then Meppel and Roden followed, in the middle of coronation time. That eventually became the neck. The Asser location went bankrupt at the end of March, as well as the adjacent Brasserie De Kroon, which was also taken over by them, just before Corona in January 2020.
De Bakker and Schenker in Meppel, which they opened in 2021, was already sold to another Meppeler Horeca entrepreneur last October. In the last few weeks, a successor was searched for in recent weeks. According to Ziengs, after all the setbacks, “the puff was completely out.” “The hospitality adventure was finally left for us.”
The action of the tax authorities in Roden is ‘a nasty surprise’, says Ziengs. “This is a line through the bill. There was interest in continuing the catering company. But now that the inventory is gone, it will no longer be.”
Last week the catering company on the Roder Brink was closed due to the vacation of the employees. This Monday, according to Ziengs, the case would ‘just open again’. “On Sunday the employees returned from vacation, with the intention to open the business the next day. The planning was completed. And the stock was also ordered.”
But according to Ziengs, everything that was loose was removed by the tax authorities. “Because of the bankruptcy in Assen, they probably saw the mood hanging from the tax authorities. They try to get some money. Besides chairs and tables, the kitchen has also disappeared.” The case is completely empty. What remains are the ordered steaks, schnitzels, and the other stocks. They are still in the freezer and the fridge. That’s all they left. “
In consultation with the landlord, the lease for the building in Roden was dissolved. Vos and Ziengs are now considering requesting the bankruptcy.
For the bankrupt catering establishments in Assen, curator Jeroen Sprangers is busy with takeover candidates. Eleven candidates had reported. After a bidding round, which ended yesterday, according to him, there will be consultations with both landlords of the catering buildings on the Brink in the coming days.
