“Hopefully stricter legislation”: 5 years after deadly crane accident

On 27 December 2017, the tower crane in Meeuwenlaan tipped over due to strong gusts of wind, causing the counterweight to end up in Residentie Mosselbank. The crane company from Izegem was fined 40,000 euros, the manager was sentenced to three months in prison and a fine of 8,000 euros.

According to the public prosecutor, the company had taken too few precautions while the crane had already started spinning in previous incidents.

We look back on that incident in our news today. Davy Vercruysse from Harelbeke still remembers the fall of the tower crane well. He hopes that the legislation has become stricter because of this fact.
