The negative swimming advice for the Hoornseplas has been lifted. That means that you can swim safely again.

The Hoornseplas received negative swimming advice in June, after the province received several reports from swimmers who received swimmers-like complaints afterwards, reports RTV Noord. With swimmers itch you have itching or bumps on your skin because small worms penetrate your skin.

Swimming is also (still) discouraged in other places in the province. For example, the province of Drenthe and Water Board Vechtstroom have been giving negative swimming advice for swimming in the Grote Rietplas in Emmen since June. That is still in force. Swimming is also not recommended in the Paterswoldsemeer, at the Lijte. Blue algae has been determined at both swimming locations, which means that swimmers have a chance or a high risk of skin irritation and stomach and intestinal complaints.
