Hoorn under the spell of ‘murdered man with knife in back’: “I saw him lying”

Little is known about the man who was found dead in Hoorn yesterday afternoon. Presumably the victim had been lying in the backyard with a knife in his back since New Year’s Eve. The police are currently still investigating and are not yet commenting on the ongoing case.

Local residents are shocked by the incident that probably took place on New Year’s Eve in the Boedijnhof.

“From our top floor I saw the dead man lying in the backyard,” says an anonymous local resident, who lives diagonally opposite the house.

He had a black object stuck in his back. I couldn’t see it very well, but it looked like a knife”

“My husband called yesterday afternoon for me to come up and see it,” she continues with regret. “I didn’t really want to see it, but then I walked up anyway. There I saw a man on a garden chair lying bent over on a table. He had a black object stuck in his back. I couldn’t see it very well, but it looked like a knife.”

Another local resident, who overlooks the garden from his home, also saw the deceased man lying there until last night.

“Yesterday afternoon an officer knocked on my door,” says the neighbour, who prefers to remain anonymous. “He told me not to open the curtains of my attic window.” Out of curiosity, the neighbor decided to do the opposite and was shocked by what he saw.

It was a horrible sight to see and even around eight o’clock in the evening the police had not yet put a sheet over the man.”

“I was surprised they hadn’t put a white sheet over the body,” the man sighs. “It was a nasty sight to see and even around eight o’clock in the evening the police had not put a sheet over the man. I am really pissed about that.”

Achenebbish neighbourhood

“It is an Achenebbish neighborhood where everything happens,” says another resident who lives not far from the crime scene. The woman herself, who prefers to remain anonymous, did not hear anything crazy on New Year’s Eve. “I did see a strange car driving around that didn’t belong here, but that was it.”

The woman did not know the victim, but can see that her neighborhood has deteriorated considerably in recent years. “The Boedijnhof is now really notorious in Hoorn.”
