Hoogevener suspected of attempted manslaughter after driving into police with tractor

A 23-year-old man from Hoogeveen is suspected of attempted manslaughter after he hit a police car with a tractor last night. This happened during a blockade of the A37, the police report.

A 49-year-old man from Emmen was also arrested, he did not follow a police order. He also drove under the influence. The man from Emmen has since been released.

The A37 was completely closed in both directions for some time yesterday between Veenoord and the Holsloot interchange. Several farmers blocked the way there. According to the police, a threatening situation arose during the blockade, in which the man from Hoogeveen tried to drive into a police car with officers in it. They have reported a manslaughter.

The farmers were supported by some 200 sympathizers. According to the police, about thirty to fifty tried to prevent the arrest, after which officers drew their batons. The police report that in another incident on the A37, an officer injured his hand after a car drove close to him.
