Aircraft manufacturer Fokker has once again informed Hoogeveen politicians that it does not want to discuss the chrome-6 incident. The company previously decided not to attend a dialogue evening on May 12, but Fokker is also not keen on a discussion on its own company premises on June 18.
The municipal council urged the company to speak out there in the context of corporate social responsibility, but Fokker failed to do so.
“We have received the letter from the municipal council in good order, but our position remains unchanged. Although we are the reason for the topic of discussion, we are of the opinion that we are not a party to the current discussion,” the company said in a letter to the municipal council. According to the groups, the company must be present to provide a good picture of the incident. They therefore ask Fokker to join us at a later time in June.
“As previously indicated, we regret the incident. We have been transparent from the start about the incident and its effects on the wastewater. We have also been transparent in the handling of the incident and we have done everything we can to take the correct measures to prevent a recurrence of this incident.”
Things went wrong at Fokker in October 2024. An installation in the factory flooded, causing too much chromium-6 to end up in the sewer. The substance has an anti-rust effect and is found in paint, but is also dangerous because it is carcinogenic.
