Hoogeveen can’t make any headway against Genemuiden offensively

Hoogeveen started the restart of the competition with a defeat. The Drenthe team lost 1-0 to Genemuiden at Sportpark De Wetering. They were at least equal to the championship candidate, but failed offensively.

The image before the winter break, of the team combining skillfully at times, but having difficulty scoring, immediately reappeared in 2024. Hoogeveen was at least equal to SC Genemuiden, but could not make a fist offensively. Not a child’s fist yet. The lack of scoring ability is also the reason why the PhD candidate is in acute danger of relegation.

With a smoothly scoring attacker, Hoogeveen could have distanced themselves from the home club before half time. It had the opportunity to do so, but the one-on-one situation of Justin Benjamins with goalkeeper Hidde Streutker was also not for Hoogeveen’s left attacker. He aimed the ball against the goalkeeper’s quickly outstretched foot.

‘Happiest won’

“If one team was entitled to a lead in the first half, it was us,” said coach Stef Lamberink. The disappointment about the outcome of the match was clear from his face. “I think the luckiest one won,” he said.

Lamberink, who has extended his contract with Hoogeveen for one year, realizes that his team is too light offensively, especially at the point of attack, but did not want to emphasize this immediately after the match was canceled. “It shouldn’t become a thing,” he said.

Jeroen Kamphuis was the striker against Genemuiden. The attacker, who came over from Dalfsen, was closely tied to Jens Jurn Streutker and Jur van Dalfsen and was also unable to impress in previous matches. He has not yet been able to bridge the level difference between the first division and the third division.

Easy scoring striker

Kamphuis was sent onto the field by Lamberink as the deepest striker because he could not call on Levon van Dijk (groin complaints). Louis Vijfhuizen therefore moved back a few lines from the striker position to the central back position, where he formed a pair with Alex Blekkink. But Vijfhuizen is also not a goal scorer par excellence. The team is crying out for an easy-scoring striker.

In addition to Van Dijk, Emiel Bijlsma was also missing. He has a shoulder injury. After an hour, the proud winner of the Protos Weering indoor football tournament also lost Sil Kuurman. He dropped out with a hamstring injury and is likely to be sidelined for a number of weeks. And that is also a loss.

Positive aspect

There were not many encouraging messages from Genemuiden on Saturday afternoon, but there was still a positive aspect to the match. Hoogeveen also lost at home to SC Genemuiden, then 2-1. It was of no use at the time, but five months later it was equal to the high-flyer in the third division. In other words, Lamberink’s team has made progress.

After the break, the combinations at Hoogeveen were more difficult than before. Stan Meekhof then had to roll up his sleeves more often than his colleague Hidde Streutker on the other side of the field. Halfway through the first half he had no chance when Mike Reuvers appeared alone in front of him. Berwout Beimers had hidden the former player of Emmen, Nieuw-Buinen and SVBO in the depths. And Hoogeveen could not recover from that blow.
