Even before Honor officially unveiled the new Robot Phone, it made a surprise appearance on the world’s biggest football stage. A freshly crowned world champion showcased the unusual smartphone to millions of viewers.
The FIFA World Cup 2026 has concluded, with Spain claiming the title after a 1-0 victory over Argentina in extra time. While players celebrated their triumph on the MetLife Stadium pitch in New Jersey, another object caught the public’s eye: the Honor Robot Phone.
A Smartphone Amidst the World Cup Festivities
Throughout various videos and photos of the jubilation scenes, Spain’s defender, Eric García, was spotted with an unavailable smartphone model. Tech observers immediately identified the device as the new Honor Robot Phone, a model that had previously appeared at trade shows but was not yet available for purchase.
That a player showcased an unreleased smartphone immediately after achieving the pinnacle of his career is indeed noteworthy. Images rapidly circulated across social media platforms, sparking extensive discussions.
Honor Achieves a PR Victory with Global Reach
While Honor hasn’t officially commented on the unexpected appearance, it is widely believed that the company strategically seized the opportunity to present its upcoming flagship to a worldwide audience.
Clearly, this strategy paid off. While traditional advertising campaigns often require significant budgets, the Robot Phone garnered massive attention swiftly due to its unexpected debut on the World Cup field. Numerous uploads showcasing the device have surfaced on social media, providing Honor with visibility that many manufacturers typically struggle to achieve without extensive marketing efforts.
The smartphone is already available for pre-order in China, with expectations for an official unveiling in August.
What’s Inside the Honor Robot Phone
One of the most intriguing aspects of the device is its camera technology. Confirmed features include a 200-megapixel main camera equipped with a movable three-axis gimbal system, designed to minimize blurriness and elevate image stabilization to new heights.
Additionally, early reports indicate the presence of another 200-megapixel periscope camera for zoom shots and a 50-megapixel ultra-wide camera. The processing power is expected to come from Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. Initial hands-on videos have also shown a relatively thick housing—suggestive that Honor is prioritizing camera technology with this model.
