They took advantage of their chance: the footballers from Eintracht Frankfurt climbed to the top of the Bundesliga with a home win against Leipzig – and can call themselves autumn champions.

Half of the season is over – and the Eintracht Frankfurt footballers are sensationally leading the Bundesliga table. Because VfL Wolfsburg recently lost against Leverkusen, the Hessians climbed on Monday evening with a fully deserved 3-0 (1-0) home win against RB Leipzig to the top of the table. Nicole Anyomi (7th), Tanja Pawollek (63rd) and Carlotta Wamser (87th) scored the goals for the hosts, who can look forward to the autumn championship for the first time in their history as Eintracht Frankfurt Women.

Eintracht never left any doubt about their goal, the home three. She dominated the game right from the start, pressed high and benefited early on from Leipzig’s daring build-up play. They misused the ball in their own box, so it was easy for attacker Anyomi to take the lead (7th). The national player celebrated her goal with a skillful dance. Even after that, the Hessians were clearly better and had no trouble keeping Leipzig away from their own box. The only thing is that they didn’t get into any dangerous final situations before the break.

One more game before Christmas

After the break, Leipzig loosened the previously tight defensive alliance a little, which played into Eintracht’s hands. The hostesses got more and more rooms. First Laura Prasnikar (59th) was denied by the goalkeeper, then captain Pawollek made it 2-0 from an ambush – the preliminary decision in the already one-sided duel (63rd). Substitute Wamser set the final point (87.)

In order for the autumn championship to become a Christmas championship, the Hessians should ideally also win the last game of the year, next Friday at the penultimate Carl Zeiss Jena. The Bundesliga will then take a break until the beginning of February.
