VfL Bochum will have to do without Gerrit Holtmann for the time being and definitely for the rest of the year. The 30-year-old offensive player has undergone knee surgery and will therefore not be available for the Revierklub’s upcoming challenges. Coach Uwe Rösler was unable to provide an exact downtime before the second division team’s home game against Arminia Bielefeld (Saturday, 1 p.m.).
“The operation was this morning, I haven’t had any feedback yet. It was supposed to be a minor operation. I don’t know the prognosis for the downtime at the moment,” explained Rösler and added: “He won’t play again this year.” Koji Miyoshi (28) and Kevin Vogt (34) are also missing from Bochum.
Experienced Holtmann, who came on a free transfer from Mainz 05 in August 2020 and has since been active on loan for Antalyaspor and Darmstadt, is the longest-serving professional at VfL. In the current season, the Bremerhaven player, who has a market value of 700,000 euros, has scored five goals and one assist in 15 league and cup matches. Before the 15th matchday, VfL Bochum is in twelfth place with 16 points.
