Holstein Kiel gets a point at HSV, home wins for Greuther Fürth and Jahn Regensburg

Four goals in three games

Without their suspended coach Tim Walter, Hamburger SV suffered the next setback in the promotion race to the 2nd Bundesliga. Because of his red card in the defeat at Karlsruher SC (2-4) a week earlier, the 47-year-old had to watch his team’s 0-0 draw against Holstein Kiel from the stands from the north. Due to the draw, HSV slipped to the promotion relegation place. After the last disappointing results, the people of Kiel managed to achieve a respectable result.

In front of 57,000 spectators in the Volksparkstadion, which was once again sold out, HSV, coached by Walter’s assistants Merlin Polzin, Filip Tapalovic and Julian Hübner, started dominantly. The hosts created numerous chances and hardly let Kiel get a chance in the first half hour. Holstein goalkeeper Robin Himmelmann was the visitors’ busiest player. Hamburg’s top scorer Robert Glatzel alone had three chances to take the lead before the break (3rd, 12th, 21st).

The HSV defensive organized by the recovering captain Sebastian Schonlau was initially only rarely challenged. Philipp Sander fired the first noteworthy shot on the Hamburg goal in the 36th minute. In injury time in the first half, ex-HSV professional Lewis Holtby, who failed from close range to goalkeeper Daniel Heuer Fernandes, had it. After the change, the dominance of Hamburg was no longer so great. The last pass in the last third was often too imprecise to create clearer chances. Ransford Königsdörffer (56th) caused danger with a shot in front of the Kiel goal. In injury time, the unfortunate Glatzel with the hoe missed the chance for HSV to win.

Thanks to an own goal and goalkeeper mistakes – Fürth beats Magdeburg

SpVgg Greuther Fürth took an important step towards staying up in the league with a 3-0 (0-0) win over 1. FC Magdeburg. Julian Green (64th minute), a slapstick own goal by Magdeburg’s Daniel Heber (69th) and Lukas Petkov (75th) made the final score. The Franconians have been unbeaten at home for ten games. In addition, SpVgg overtook Magdeburg in the relegation battle of the 2nd Bundesliga.

The hosts from Fürth got into the game better in front of 11,619 spectators and controlled what was happening on the pitch. Petkov had the best opportunity in the first half, pushing the ball past the Magdeburg goal (34′). Meanwhile, FCM coach Christian Titz had to change twice early due to injury. Jason Ceka came on for Luc Castaignos (22′), Amara Condé replaced Cristiano Piccini (37′). Only in the final phase of the first part of the game did Magdeburg have the first opportunity worth mentioning, but Herbert Bockhorn narrowly missed a cross from Baris Atik (45+2).

In the second half, too, the Fürth team dominated the game. Green rewarded the offensive efforts with a goal worth seeing. Just a few minutes later, Ragnar Ache was denied by Magdeburg’s goalkeeper Dominik Reimann, but the ball bounced directly onto Heber’s chest and from there into the goal. Reimann missed the third goal when a shot from Petkov slipped through his fingers.

Regensburg defeats Paderborn – Penalty goal after video evidence

The SSV Jahn Regensburg has brought in the next important victory in the relegation battle. Jahn won 1-0 (0-0) against SC Paderborn. Prince Osei Owusu scored the winning goal in front of 10,189 spectators with a penalty kick (49th minute).

The Regensburg team won against the strongest offensive in the 2nd Bundesliga on Saturday thanks to a convincing performance in defence. In front, the video evidence helped Jahn score the decisive goal. After a first half of the game without any chances worth mentioning for either side, a Paderborn player brought down Jahn striker Owusu in the penalty area shortly after the break. After referee Martin Thomsen looked at the video images, he awarded a penalty. At the penalty Owusu let SCP goalkeeper Jannik Huth jump into the void.

Even after that, the Paderborn offensive emanated little danger. Instead, Regensburg’s Aygün Yildirim (89′) almost increased the lead to 2-0 in the closing stages, but he failed to hit the post.
