The southeast of the holiday island of Cyprus, in particular, is at a crossroads. In the villages of Agia Napa and Protaras, the Russians made up more than half of the guests in recent years. Normally, the 160 rooms of the Corfu Hotel are mostly occupied around this time. “Now I will open in a few days with six bookings,” says owner Stelios Panagiotou in front of the pool, which he has just filled. “If they go ahead, that is, because guests can cancel until the last minute.”
