In the match against Ugo Humbert, a momentous moment occurred for the Dane. His mother is already speaking out – and Boris Becker is also reacting.
The Danish tennis star Holger Rune was seriously injured at the ATP tournament in Stockholm and will be out for months. As his mother and manager Aneke Rune told several Danish media outlets, her son tore his Achilles tendon in his left foot. “There is no doubt. The downtime is three to six months,” Aneke Rune wrote in a text message.
The eleventh in the world rankings suffered the injury in the semi-final against Frenchman Ugo Humbert during a rally. Limping heavily, the 22-year-old dragged himself to his bench, where he was treated with great pain and tears in his eyes. “I think I tore my Achilles tendon,” Rune told the physical therapist. The former protégé was accompanied into the dressing room by Boris Becker.
“I wish him a full and speedy recovery,” Becker wrote on X. The six-time Grand Slam winner coached Rune for around four months in 2023 and 2024.
Rune has been struggling with physical problems for a long time. Against Humbert he played with a large bandage around his left thigh. Nevertheless, the five-time ATP tournament winner was on course for the final before he had to give up with the score at 6:4, 2:2.
