On the court, Holger Rune sometimes exaggerates with his wear. After a difficult defeat, he now showed himself from a completely different side – and became sentimental.

The final at the prestigious ATP Masters-1000 tournament in Indian Wells was one to forget for tennis professional Holger Rune. The world ranking twelfth (since Monday) from Denmark was a chance against Alcaraz conqueror Jack Draper from England, lost after only 70 minutes with 2: 6, 2: 6.

In his speech at the subsequent award ceremony, Rune, who is sometimes considered a controversial character on the tour, overwhelmed on the tour, then the feelings.

“It was a difficult day for me, but first I have to congratulate Jack,” the 21-year-old started. “What two weeks you have behind you, you played fantastic tennis, so you deserve to win, congratulations.”

When he wanted to thank his family, who was not there in California, Rune came to tears. “And a thank you to my family at home,” said Rune, before he hit his hands in front of his face and had to gather for a few seconds.

He apologized before he pushed a short sentence: “It means everything for me, so thank you until next year.”

On Instagram, Rune was fighting again a few hours later, wrote: “On the right track. After seven semi -finals last year, it was one step further to celebrate big wins again. I know what I did wrong today and I know what I have to do next time. And most importantly: I am really hungry to improve myself.”

In Miami, the next big tournament begins for Rune from Thursday, which is also part of the Masters category (second highest after the Grand Slams).
