Munich (AP) – National player Jonas Hofmann (29) trusts the German team at the World Cup in Qatar at the end of the year the really big coup.

“If you’ve been there for a long time, you have this very clear goal. With Germany, you always have a team in the tournament that can win the title,” said the offensive player for Bundesliga club Borussia Mönchengladbach when he visited the Munich tennis tournament.

In the current Fifa world rankings, Germany is in twelfth place. Supposedly weaker teams like Denmark or Mexico are ahead of the team of national coach Hansi Flick. “Of course we want to go back to the top of the world,” said Hofmann, whose anticipation of the World Cup is “incredibly great”.

future soon to be settled

Hofmann believes in a timely decision about his future at Borussia Mönchengladbach. “I think that the talks will continue in the coming weeks and will also be finalized,” said Hofmann. He is in “honest exchange” with those responsible.

Hofmann has been playing in Mönchengladbach since 2016. His contract with the Bundesliga club expires in summer 2023. The 29-year-old continues to avoid a clear commitment to the club, which had been in the relegation battle for a long time this season. “We’ve had other problems lately,” said Hofmann. “I subordinate everything to that.”
