“I really hope so”
Hoeneß talks about Bayern’s big goal – and expresses his wish

The long-time creator of FC Bayern speaks on the sidelines of an event about FC Bayern and a longed-for title that worries the people of Munich. He also has something to say about current events in Germany.
Bayern supervisory board member Uli Hoeneß has emphasized that FC Bayern has a particularly big goal for the current season. On the sidelines of the “A Heart for Children” event organized by the “Bild” newspaper in Berlin, Hoeneß was asked about his sporting highlights in the coming year. From the Munich team’s point of view, the answer is clear: “Our team obviously wants to a) become German champions, and b) advance internationally again – and above all come to the cup final in Berlin,” explained the 73-year-old on Saturday evening.
“Because you saw in the game against Union Berlin (in the 3-2 win in the round of 16 of the DFB Cup on Wednesday, editor’s note) how they were happy like little children because we hadn’t been to Berlin for a long time.”
The German record champions’ last cup victory was five years ago, and since 2020, Bayern have been eliminated from the competition comparatively early every year. The “double” of championship and cup victory is therefore particularly important for coach Vincent Kompany and his team.
Another highlight in 2026 is “the national team playing in a World Cup, and I hope that they go as far as possible,” Hoeneß continued.
“Privately, it would be nice if it stayed the way it is now,” said Hoeneß. At the end of the year, he was “totally satisfied with how things went both privately and at FC Bayern, and I very much hope that this mood can be extended to our entire country” – explained the honorary president of Bavaria, probably also referring to the current political and social climate in Germany.
Hoeneß also revealed a personal anecdote at Christmas time: “I always get an Advent calendar from my wife, there are some goodies there. Sometimes a bottle of wine, olive oil…”. When the reporter remarked that it had to be “a big Advent calendar,” Hoeneß smiled and nodded.
