Hockey legend Teun de Nooijer new coach of hockey players in Amsterdam

Record international Teun de Nooijer will be the trainer/coach of the Amsterdam women’s hockey from the start of the new season. The national champion has thus found the successor for Robert Tigges, who has closed the door of the Wagenerstadion after 14 years.

De Nooijer played 453 matches for the Dutch team and participated in five Olympic Games (2x gold and 2x silver). He also celebrated great success as a player with Bloemendaal (9x national champion and 3x Euro Hockey League win) and in 2003, 2005 and 2006 he was named the best hockey player in the world.

Team manager AZ

After his active career, De Nooijer made a short trip to football. In the 2014/2015 season he was team manager at AZ.

He then returned to the hockey field as a coach for the women of Bloemendaal and as an assistant to the German women’s team at the last Olympic Games. Last year he was an analyst at Viaplay. “I think it was good for me that I was able to distance myself a bit,” says 37-year-old De Nooijer in a press release from Amsterdam about his appointment. “But of course it will tickle to do something on the field again with your experience and passion.”

In addition to his work as head coach of Amsterdam, De Nooijer will continue to do the analyzes at Viaplay. Robert Tigges, who helped Amsterdam to its first national title since 2019, will become a trainer of Hamburger Polo Club in Germany.
