What are the title chances of the German selection of women?

After the quarter-finals against Argentina at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, a personnel team took place at the German national team. That is precisely why she was “not busy with high expectations to the team,” emphasized the new national coach Janneke Schopman. “But we can play hockey and I think we have proven that too,” added the Dutch.

Under Schopman, it was still in hockey Pro League, the competition for national teams held by the World Association. As a table seventh for nine participants, the DHB selection secured the relegation, but it was the worst result since the 2019 league introduction.

“I think there is a lot of potential in this team what is still to be exploited,” said the native of Krefeld Lisa Nolte, who alternates with Linnea Weidemann as a captain and also relying on the home advantage: “Hopefully the stadium is full of every game, you can use this energy of the audience to perform – and that is a huge motivation for us as a team.”

The measure of all things will again be the Netherlands, which are also group opponents of the DHB selection: the team became Olympic champion twice in a row, world champion three times in series and four times in a row. However, the other German group tasks France and Ireland can be solved. The goal of German women is the semi -finals, but: “I want to win a medal and prefer to come to the final,” said Nolte.

What are the title chances of the German men’s selection?

A change also took place after the Olympic Games, but as world champions from 2023 and silver medalists from Paris are part of the favorite group. For his players, only one “logic” is communicated, emphasized national coach André Henning shortly before the opening game of France: “namely to win the tournament.”

Hardest competitor, like women, should be the Netherlands, against which the DHB selection lost the Olympic final 2024 in penalty shooting. In addition to the world rankings and Germany (second place), Belgium, Spain and the German group opponent England are represented by the world rankings places three to five, the teams are at eye level.

“It is clear that we are still a bit in change and in Berlin at the Pro League we also experienced a roller coaster ride,” said Mats Grambusch, who will lead his team to the field in his hometown as a captain. “It has to be more stable.” Germany took fourth place in the Pro League. The semi-finals are the minimum goal of German men.
