The next designer collaboration from H&M is in the starting blocks.

For the first major designer collaboration after a two-year break, the Swedish fashion group has brought French luxury fashion house Mugler to its side. Designed by Mugler creative director Casey Cadwallader, the collection will reflect Mugler’s unique and vibrant spirit, H&M announced on Wednesday.

The Swedish fashion chain isn’t revealing much beyond that, but the collection will be available online and in selected stores in the spring.

Is Mugler bringing cutouts and bodysuits to H&M?

Cadwallader has served as Mugler’s creative director since 2017, helping to revitalize the brand founded by Thierry Mugler in 1974. The designer is known for designs with form-fitting silhouettes that are subversive and sexy. Some of his most popular designs for Muglers include skin-tight bodysuits with cutouts, bodycon dresses and suits reminiscent of ’80s power dressing. It remains to be seen to what extent the designer will now bring his established Mugler aesthetic to H&M.

Mugler joins an impressive list of guest designers who have previously collaborated with the Swedish fashion house. Karl Lagerfeld started things off in 2004, followed by industry giants such as Maison Margiela, Balmain, Isabel Marant, Comme des Garçons, Lanvin, Versace and Giambattista Valli. Most recently, H&M worked with Irish designer Simone Rocha.
